FVAM's theatre program is closely aligned with both the art and music programs as well as building language skills. The program at FVAM provides an avenue for students to bring their talent in music, the visual arts, dance, and writing to the performing arts. Progressing from small group lessons in movement and improvisation, students gain confidence in their ability to perform in a variety of theatrical settings from acting classes to individual monologues to a full musical production.
All elementary and middle school students perform in our two annual theatre productions - the Monologue Coffee House in December and the spring musical in May. The monologue evening provides each student the opportunity to work closely with our professional staff to select their own topic, craft that into an engaging and often humorous monologue. The students design appropriate props and costuming, and perfect their delivery for an evening where each student shines. In the spring, students participate in a full-scale musical production learning the importance of each performer's contribution, the role of collaboration, and the thrill of being part of a professionally directed and choreographed musical. The musical is performed at on offsite professional theater providing students with an authentic performance experience.
